Slumdog

Slumdog Millionaire led an evening of British triumph at the 81st Academy Awards in Hollywood, winning eight awards including Best Picture and Best Director for Danny Boyle.

The rags-to-riches story of an orphan from the Mumbai slums who wins the Indian version of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? had been expected to achieve glory after sweeping a host of prizes in earlier awards ceremonies, and did not disappoint.

We have had very good attendance for the film here at the Capitol and mixed feedback from the audience. If you liked or disliked the film let us know by leaving a comment. We are showing the film in digital in screen 1 for another week.

Wizard of Oz

We welcome Act Too Stage School students to the Capitol this week. It’s been a hectic week so far and each of the three schools, Horsham, Haywards Heath and Crawley have performed one performance with one to go. There are tickets still available for most performances.

Film

We have just finished showing two great films The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which I loved and Revolutionary Road which I didn’t. Both films were well attended and have been highly praised this Awards season. As we look towards the Oscars this Sunday, we are hoping we have brought/will be bringing you the winners. Fingers crossed! We have already shown The Reader (will this be Kate Winslett’s year), starting tomorrow we have Slumdog Millionaire and over the next few weeks, Doubt, Milk and the Wrestler will be screening in Horsham. slumdogmillionaire

Our First Post

Welcome to The Capitol Horsham’s Blog. Here we aim to keep you up to date with the wide range of events that we have going on.  For those of you that don’t know what we do or who we are. The Capitol houses a Theatre, two cinemas, studio, bar and cafe. We are owned and operated by Horsham District Council and we are part of the Community Services Department. The General Manager is Michael Gattrell and there are two other members of the senior management team, Michelle Woods – Promotions Manager and myself Gary Johnson – Operations Manager. We are always keen to hear your feedback on what we do. We receive hundreds of email weekly about films you would like to see, shows that you hated, compliments and complaints. By posting some of the feedback here, we hope to give you an insight into how the building works, and to answer many of your frequently asked questions.
